Every free PDF tool on the internet asks you for something. An email address. A subscription after the third file. A watermark stamped across the page you just fixed. Or worst of all, it asks you to upload a signed contract, a medical form, or a tax document to a server you know nothing about — and then serves you three ad banners while you wait.
We built FreePDF at pdf.scanthistext.com because that trade shouldn't exist.
It is free. Not free-trial free, not free-until-you-hit-a-limit free. 100% free, with zero ads, for personal use, school work, freelance work, business paperwork — any and all situations, on the web or on your phone.
Your file never leaves your device
This is the part that matters most, so it goes first.
FreePDF runs entirely in your browser, built on pdf-lib. When you open a PDF, nothing is transmitted anywhere. The file is read into memory on your own machine, edited on your own machine, and saved back out from your own machine. There is no upload step, because there is no server holding your document.
That has a few consequences worth spelling out:
- Nothing to leak. We can't lose a file we never received.
- Nothing to delete later. There's no "your files are removed after 1 hour" promise to trust, because there was never a copy to remove.
- It works on sensitive documents. Contracts, IDs, medical paperwork, financials — the kind of PDF you'd never drag onto a random website.
- No sign-up. No account, no email, no verification link. Open the page and start working.
- No watermarks and no page limits. Merge a 400-page document if you want to.
What FreePDF does today
Three tools are live right now. They're the three that cover most of what people actually need a PDF app for.
1. Create PDF
Type or paste text and get a clean, properly typeset PDF out the other side.
You can set an optional title, choose the font size, and pick Letter or A4. Text wraps automatically and paginates automatically, so a long paste doesn't run off the edge of the page or get cut off at the bottom — it just flows into as many pages as it needs.
Useful for the everyday things that shouldn't require opening a word processor: a quick letter, a printable list, meeting notes, a statement you need to attach to a form.
2. Edit PDF
This is the heart of the app. FreePDF renders your existing PDF in the browser and gives you real editing tools on top of it:
- Add text anywhere on the page.
- Rewrite existing text — this one is the trick most free editors don't do. FreePDF matches the background behind the text and pre-fills the field with the real existing text, so you're correcting a typo rather than covering it with an obvious white box.
- Draw with a pen, or mark up with a translucent highlighter.
- Sign with a signature pad — draw your signature and drop it where it belongs.
- Insert images (PNG or JPEG) directly onto the page.
- Whiteout and redact anything that shouldn't be visible.
- Rotate pages in 90° steps.
- Reorder, duplicate, or delete pages.
It has undo/redo and keyboard shortcuts, so it behaves like an editor and not like a form. Made a mess? Step back out of it.
3. Merge PDF
Combine multiple PDFs into one, in whatever order you arrange them. No page limit, no file count limit, no upgrade prompt at file three.
Anyone who has ever had to submit "one single PDF containing all supporting documents" knows exactly why this tool exists.
Getting the finished file out
When you're done, FreePDF gives you three ways to get the result off the page — and all of them stay on-device:
- Download the file directly.
- Share through your phone's native share sheet on mobile, straight into Mail, Messages, Drive, or whatever else you use.
- Email as a fallback when native sharing isn't available.
Honest notes on limits
We'd rather tell you the edges up front than let you find them mid-task.
Fonts and scripts. FreePDF embeds Noto Sans, so accented Latin characters, Cyrillic, and Greek all render correctly — no more mangled names or missing diacritics. It does not yet support CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean), emoji, or Arabic in text you add. Those scripts are on the list.
Difficult files. Encrypted and damaged PDFs are handled gracefully — the app tells you what's wrong instead of hanging or silently producing a broken file.
Scope. Create, Edit, and Merge are what's live today. More tools are in the works, and rotate/reorder/image insertion already exist inside the Edit tool if that's what you came for.
Coming to the Play Store by the end of 2026
FreePDF already works on mobile browsers — the editor is touch-friendly, the signature pad is built for a fingertip, and the share sheet is native.
A dedicated Android app is coming to the Google Play Store by the end of 2026, carrying the same promises with it: free, no ads, no account, on-device.
