Use case · OCR
Turn your handwriting into text you can search.
Scan a notebook page, a sticky note, or a whiteboard photo and get clean text back — even when the original was your own messy script.
Handles cursive, print, and whiteboard photos · 100+ languages
How it works
Three steps. About 0.4 seconds of work for you.
Step 01
Photograph the page
Snap your notebook page, whiteboard, or sticky note. Daylight and a flat angle help, but neither is required.
Step 02
We read the handwriting
Our handwriting-aware OCR pipeline handles printed handwriting, cursive, and the kind of mixed scripts you actually write.
Step 03
Edit, translate, or save
Get clean text you can paste into Notion, Obsidian, or your notes app. Translate into 100+ languages in one click.
Frequently asked
Questions before you upload?
Does it work on cursive?
Yes. Both printed handwriting and cursive are supported. Accuracy depends on legibility; the cleaner the writing, the cleaner the output.
Can it read whiteboards?
Yes. Photographing a whiteboard from a few feet away and uploading the image works well — common with meeting notes, classrooms, and design sessions.
What about math equations or diagrams?
Plain text extraction works on equations written in standard notation, but specialized scientific symbols and diagrams are not extracted as structured math. Treat the output as a typed transcription.
Will it preserve bullet points and indentation?
We try to preserve line breaks and basic structure. For deep structure (tables, nested lists), the Business tier's structured extraction is more reliable.
What happens to my files after I scan them?
Files are processed over TLS, stored encrypted at rest, and deleted from the OCR queue after extraction. Free-tier history is kept 30 days; paid-tier history is forever or until you delete it.
Is it really free?
Yes. The free tier processes up to 10 ScanThisText.com scans per day and 300 per month with no credit card. Paid tiers unlock unlimited scans, AI extraction, and longer history.
